Dry not Dead

During one of the many conversations I had with my Mummy during the week, I sent a picture of the new vase I got for myself. She noticed the flowers in them and remarked "why do you have dead flowers in your room?". (Sidebar: I went to look for trouble sha, lol! 😂) To which I replied, "Mummy, they’re not dead, they’re dry".
After that conversation, I thought about that statement during the week. My flowers do not look like the standard wilted form taken on when they die. At best, it is the closest to preserved flowers from an amateur’s first attempt at flower drying.
Almost 3 months later, the orange, yellow and lilac flowers still retain their colour. The magenta flowers got a lot darker after the drying process. But overall, there’s a pop of colour in my room thanks to it.
The preservation process is very similar to dying when you think about it. In both instances the flowers are cut off from their nourishment sources; exposed to the dry winter air; and gravity.
Guess what the difference is?

*I don’t know if you actually guessed or not, but I will still tell you because that is why I am writing today*
Position
That is the difference between having dead flowers that are wilted and dried flowers that have some parts of their essence preserved.
I had to hang the flowers upside down while they dried for over 2 months in front of my window.
I didn’t bother to check the science behind it thoroughly. What I did observe however is that having the flowers upside down changed the way gravity interacted with it. The flowers dried as "straight" as possible.
Because of how it was positioned, what would have normally equated to a gradual but sure demise ended up preserving the flowers.

Thought about this a lot during the week. *Intervals o, IRL I thought about it in intervals* Anyway, I’ll see you next week!
